Adaptive Sports and Fitness at U-M is committed to making sports and fitness accessible and inclusive for everyone—both individuals with disabilities and those without—on campus and in the greater Ann Arbor community. Since its founding in 2018, the program has become a leader in competitive adaptive sports, offering modified sports such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair rugby, and adaptive track and field. In addition to its athletic teams, the program also runs community initiatives and partners with Ann Arbor Public Schools through the Adaptive Sports and Inclusive Recreation Initiative (ASIRI), aiming to expand adaptive sports opportunities in K-12 education locally and nationwide.
Participation in U-M Adaptive Sports is open to all—students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The program offers weekly drop-in sessions, a student interest group focused on reducing barriers to physical health for people with disabilities, and a variety of online resources to encourage continued involvement and support. Whether you’re interested in competing, joining a student group, attending community events, or exploring online educational materials, there are many ways to get involved and help grow adaptive sports at U-M.
