Welcome! How to Get Connected with SSD:
Step 1: Complete the Student Initial Information Form:
- A note to newly committed students: Only complete the form once you have received a UMID number and U-M email address.
- Please note that you should not delay meeting with us due to documentation concerns. Your coordinator will discuss appropriate documentation during your welcome meeting.
- Please review our Documentation Guidelines. Students can securely upload documentation in Accommodate. It can also be submitted via fax at 734-936-3947, emailed directly to your disability access coordinator, or sent to SSDOffice@umich.edu.
Step 2: Schedule a Welcome Meeting
- After submitting your Initial Information Form, if you are requesting academic accommodations only, you will receive an email from SSD with a link to schedule your welcome meeting with your assigned disability access coordinator. If you are requesting only housing accommodations, you will receive an email outlining the specific next steps based on the nature of your request. If you request academic and housing accommodations, you will receive next-step information for each request.
- Meetings can be held virtually or in person.
- IMPORTANT: Please note emails from SSD will only be sent to your U-M email. Monitor your account for important updates and information.
Step 3: Welcome Meeting
- During this meeting, your disability access coordinator will talk with you about disability-related barriers you may be experiencing, any history of accommodations, explore reasonable accommodations, and discuss next steps. The coordinator may request additional documentation if needed.

Placement Testing Accommodations- Placement test accommodations for incoming students are not managed by SSD. Contact the Office of New Student Programs.
Paratransit Services - Available upon request. Learn more about paratransit here. For non-students (faculty, staff, and guests), please request paratransit through the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IV (ECRT) Office.
Accessible Parking - Contact Logistics, Transportation & Parking.
Dietary Considerations - Students with food allergies or who require a special diet may want to reach out to Michigan Dining's registered dietitians, who can provide you with the resources and information needed to make healthy food choices in the dining halls.
