Student Exam Accommodations

The Testing Accommodation Center (TAC) provides a secure, supportive environment for students approved for testing accommodations. With dedicated facilitation services at our two campus locations, TAC is committed to ensuring that students receive equal access to course examinations.

Whenever possible, we encourage instructors to use department resources or other available spaces to administer accommodated exams at convenient times. This gives students better access to their instructors for any questions during the exam and offers an experience closer to that of their classmates. For assistance in determining who to contact regarding testing accommodations in your department, view this list of departmental testing accommodation contacts.

TAC Locations

The Central Campus Classroom Building (CCCB) serves as the primary testing center on campus. It features 34 seats that can be adjusted to accommodate students comfortably in either a seated or standing position. The exam area offers 13 desktop computers. There are also 3 private rooms, each with 2 desktop computers.

The Modern Languages Building (MLB) has 45 seats, including 12 adjustable seats. The exam area has 4 desktop computers. There are also 4 private rooms with 5 desktop computers, available for use in any of the 3 rooms.

Access to the TAC

If you would like the TAC to facilitate an exam for you, take the following steps:

  • Log into Accommodate
  • Navigate to the course you want to schedule an exam for
  • Click “Schedule Exam with TAC.”
  • Click the “Add New Exam Request” button
  • Complete the Exam Request form

Once you complete the form, the TAC staff will review your request and determine whether we can facilitate the exam. You will receive an email either confirming or denying the request. Please submit requests at least five business days before the exam. Final exam requests have an earlier submission date. This date will be sent out at the beginning of each semester.

TAC Capacity

Please note that TAC spaces are in high demand, and capacity is limited. While we strive to accommodate as many students as possible, availability may become constrained, especially during peak periods (midterms and finals). To avoid issues with providing accommodations to students, please remember to:

  • Coordinate early. Please submit your requests as soon as you know a testing accommodation will be needed.
  • Alternate arrangements. If the TAC is at capacity, you may need to explore alternative ways to provide accommodations. Many academic departments have staff who can support such needs. Become familiar with what your department can offer and consider other ways you can provide testing accommodations. It is best practice to explore these options at the same time you submit a request to the TAC, in case we are unable to facilitate.
  • Flexible scheduling. Consider allowing flexibility in exam timing. This will give the TAC the best opportunity to find a time for your students to test with us.

How Faculty Can Support the TAC Process

  • Review accommodation letters early and plan accordingly. If you have any questions regarding a student's accommodations, contact the student's Access Coordinator.
  • Work with students and the TAC staff to confirm exam times and arrangements.
  • Provide the exam and instructions as soon as possible.
